Ayni — On the Terraces

Six days on the pre-Inka terraces: one morning of communal faena, the seed bank at 3,900 metres, and the backstrap looms that hold a district's whole record.

Three days on the Apalachicola for the annual Memorial weekend observance at Prospect Bluff — the bluff where several hundred free Black people, freedom seekers, and allied Creek and Seminole families held an armed sanctuary until the summer of 1816.

Fort Mose — The February Symposium

Two February days at Fort Mose — the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in what is now the United States, chartered in 1738 — with closed-gate grounds access and a private symposium on colonial legal sovereignty and land defence.

Four days in northern Coahuila for the Mascogos' own Juneteenth — the community of Black Seminole descendants who crossed the Rio Grande in 1850 rather than be returned to slavery, and who have observed the 19th of June on their own land grant ever since.
